Anchor

The Anchor

A single anchor was recorded and mapped. It is of a folding stock type 2.5m long.

On Sunday 24 December 1865 the anchor chains of the Ayrshire broke while she was sheltering in the lee of the land off the Swarbacks Minn and she was run under bare poles into Gilsabight, Muckle Roe, where she was driven ashore in the middle of a snow storm.

The fact that the Ayrshire broke here anchor chains before bing run in to Gilsabight probably means that her other anchors were lost before she was run ashore in Gilssabight.
